William (Bill) Raymond Van Note, 80, a resident of Wilmington, DE, passed peacefully into the arms of his loving Savior on December 14, 2017 surrounded by love and his immediate family.
Born in Salem, NJ he was the only son of the late Effie P. Van Note and William H. Van Note, both of Salem, NJ. He was a graduate of Salem High School and Goldey-Beacom College. Bill was extremely proud to serve his country in the Air Force and spent time stationed in Europe. After returning to the states Bill first started his professional career at The Boeing Company and then Delmarva Power & Light Company from which he retired as an Electrical Technician.
Bill was the loving and devoted husband to the late Carol S. Van Note who he married in 1965 and just recently celebrated their 52nd wedding anniversary on December 4th. He was the incredible father of Amy V. Frankovich (James) and Vicki V. Goettel (Philip), brother in-law to Lee, and the beloved Pop Pop to his three grandchildren, Connor and Morgan Goettel and Peyton Frankovich, all who were the lights of his life.
Dad had a strong Christian faith and a deep relationship with his Lord Jesus Christ. He believed that it was his purpose to serve Christ and others. For anyone that had the opportunity to meet, and know, Dad they quickly realized that for him it was always about serving others and never about himself. Whether it was proudly serving his country, as a trustee in his church, on the neighborhood civic association board, or taking care of others it was always about what he could do for someone else. Each day he witnessed to others, sharing his love of Christ in all of his actions, and serving as a role model for his children and grandchildren.
Next to God the most important thing to Dad was his family and he ensured that we were his priority every single day. Each and every day we knew how much we were loved and that his love was unconditional. That love extended to his grandchildren ten-fold and with his big heart and welcoming hugs he was always ready to share his love abundantly. Dad was always the Dad that made time for his family – birthday celebrations, holidays, attending sporting events, chauffeuring friends, teaching us to jump waves in the ocean, family vacations, and spending as much time as possible with the family on Long Beach Island, NJ.
Saying goodbye is never easy....saying it twice in less than two weeks is the hardest thing we have ever had to do. On Thursday, December 14th we said our final goodbyes to an amazing man who was the most caring, loving and selfless person and who we were the lucky enough ones to call Dad. We were able to be together as we said our goodbyes, holding his hands, and surrounding him with love. We believe that Dad died from a broken heart and missed Mom so much he needed to be with her. They are together once again and continuing their love story. Our hearts are heavy and broken but we know that he is now with Mom and together Pop Pop and Dearie are our guardian angels watching over their greatest joys.
No funeral services will be held, per Dad's wishes, and burial will be private.
