William T. Merrill, Jr. 89 a longtime resident of Aston, died on August 23, 2013 at Riddle Memorial Hospital.
Born in Biddeford, Maine, he was son of the late William T. and Kathleen Downey Merrill.
Mr. Merrill was an Operating Engineer at Fisher Tank Co. in Chester for over 30 years, retiring in 1986 and previously worked for the U.S. Postal Service.
He served in the U.S. Army during WWII and earned the American Theater Campaign Ribbon, the Asiatic Pacific Theater Campaign Ribbon, the WWII Victory Medal and the Good Conduct Medal. After his discharge form the Army, he enlisted in the U.S. Naval Reserves
Mr. Merrill was a Life Member of the International Union of Operating Engineers, Local 542, the Disabled Veterans of America and Chester Lodge #236, F.& A.M. He enjoyed traveling and made many trips to Maine; but most important to him was his devotion to his family.
He was husband of the late Gladys Sweeney Merrill who died in 2001, father of the late Barbara J. Lemmon and brother of the late Virginia Murphy and Priscilla Edwards.
Survivors: his children William T. Merrill, III (Annamarie) and Janice E. Merrill-Rossi (Joseph); his sister Judith Williams; grandchildren Wendi, Joe, Lauren, Mike, Kayla and Alexa; also great grandson Kenny.
Funeral Service 10:30AM Wednesday, August 28, 2013 at the White-Luttrell Funeral Home, 3551 Concord Rd., Aston where friends may call after 9:30AM. Burial Lawn Croft Cemetery.
