Obituary

William George Glessner, 92, a devoted husband, father, grandfather, and greatgrandfather, passed away on December 11, 2023, with his loving family by his side. His life was defined by his devotion to his family, faith, and strong work ethic.
Mr. Glessner was married for more than 64 years to Irene Kupay Glessner and was a loving father to his sons, Gary and Dan. He lived in Brookhaven, PA for more than 62 years and was a devout member of Our Lady of Charity Catholic Church.
Born and raised in the West End of Chester, PA, Mr. Glessner graduated from Resurrection Catholic School and Chester High School in 1948. He played professionalbaseball as a pitcher for the Cleveland Indians for two years prior to proudly serving his country in Korea within the U.S. Army.
Following his military service, he graduated from Pennsylvania Military College (PMC), now Widener University, in 1959 with a B.S. in Mechanical Engineering. He then joined Scott Paper Company, now Kimberly Clark, as an Engineer. An extraordinary problem solver, Mr. Glessner's 38-year career included developing new manufacturing processes and facilitating international operations.As a standout athlete, Mr. Glessner transitioned from baseball to fast pitch softball as a member of the Greenhalgh Pipers and helped the team win the Pennsylvania State Championship in 1966. He gained notoriety for hitting towering homeruns and for originally playing center field without a glove. Mr. Glessner was inducted into the Delaware County Sports Hall of Fame in 1985.Upon his retirement from competitive softball, he became an avid golfer, joined the Beckett Golf Club in Swedesboro, NJ, and enjoyed playing golf with his friends well into his 80s.
Mr. Glessner also coached Brookhaven Little League baseball teams for many years. He enjoyed watching his two sons play baseball, basketball, and golf, after instilling in them the values of practice, teamwork, and sportsmanship.
Later in life, he enjoyed working around his home and garden, could fix anything, and helped many neighbors. Mr. Glessner became an avid reader and listener of classicalmusic. He also enjoyed doing word puzzles and watching the Philadelphia professional sports teams.
Mr. Glessner was the son of the late Henry Glessner and Sophie Jagodzinski Glessner. He is preceded in death by his brothers, Henry Glessner of Peabody, MA, and ThomasGlessner of Ridley Park, PA. He is survived by his loving wife, Irene; his sons, GaryGlessner (Dr. Dianna) of Alpharetta, GA, and Daniel Glessner (Lucile) of Sunnyvale, CA; his brothers, James Glessner (Mary) of Media, PA, and Alfred Glessner (Patricia) of Glen Mills, PA; his four grandchildren, Stephanie Glessner Hallman (Brent) of Atlanta, GA, Evan William Glessner of San Francisco, CA, Dr. Caroline Glessner of Atlanta, GA, and Lauriane Glessner of San Diego, CA; his great-grandson, Davis Hallman of Atlanta, GA;and many nieces, nephews, and cousins.
Service: A Funeral Mass at 12:00 PM on February 10, 2024, at Our Lady of Charity
Catholic Church, 231 Upland Road, Brookhaven, PA.
Visitation: Begins at 11:00 AM at the Church on February 10, 2024.
Burial: SS. Peter and Paul Cemetery in Springfield, PA will be private.
