Walter W. "Sonny" Karlunas, 83, of Woodlyn died on October 20, 2018 at Crozer Chester Medical Center. Born in Scranton, he was the son of the late Walter and Julia Leskosky Karlunas and lived in Ridley Park before moving to his late residence in 1966.
Walter was a graduate of Eddystone High School, class of 1952 (which was the Best) and attended the evening division of PMC. He served in the US Army and was a dedicated veteran who loved the USA. Walter was employed as an Engineer for Verizon, formerly Bell Telephone for 38 years before retiring in 1991. He was a member of Our Lady of Peace R.C. Church and loved Penn State Football, Villanova Basketball and the Phillies. He was a volunteer coach for the Folsom Boys Club, Ridley ABA and Notre Dame de Lourdes Girls Basketball, but most important was his family.
Walter was predeceased by his wife of 59 years, Joan E. Carson Karlunas, who died September 7, 2018; and his sister, Connie Gillerlain.
He is survived by his sons, Walter J. Karlunas and Ted R. Karlunas (Maria); his siblings, Stan Karlunas and Joan Powell; and his step granddaughter, Nicole.
Funeral Liturgy: 11:00AM Saturday, November 3, 2018 at the White-Luttrell Funeral Home, 311 N. Swarthmore Ave. Ridley Park, PA 19078, where relatives and friends may call after 9:30 AM.
