Walter William Shank, Sr., 95, of Media died July 6, 2013 at Crozer-Keystone Hospice at Taylor Hospital. Born in Philadelphia, Mr. Shank was son of the late Silvester and Anastacia Shank. He was a longtime resident of Prospect Park prior to moving to his late residence.
Walter was a U.S. Navy Veteran GM2/c who was present in Tokyo Bay on September 2,1945 the day of the official surrender of the Japanese Empire and the close of World War II. He received the Presidential Unit Citation with One Star, the American Theater Asiatic Pacific Ribbon with Two Stars, the European Theater Ribbon and the Philippine Liberation Ribbon. He was previously employed as a Machinist at Scott Paper for 42 years. Walter was a member of Chester Lodge #236, F. & A.M. and VFW Post #928 in Folsom. He was an avid Phillies fan as well as a devoted husband, father and grandfather.
He was husband of the late Doris Moser Shank to whom he was married for 52 years and Veronica Shields Shank, brother of the late Michael Shank, Rose Opdenaker, Mildred Jones and Dorothy Brogan.
Survivors: children, Walter William Shank, Jr. (Margaret), Jean Ann Barbee (Donnie) and Susan Marie Nattress (Gary); grandchildren,John (Amanda), Anthony, Christopher, Angela, Walter, III, Ashley and Kirstie; great-grandchildren Krystal, Ryan and Anthony, also survived by nieces, nephews and his grandcat Isabella.
Sharing of Memories 10:30 AM Thursday at the White-Luttrell Funeral Home, 3551 Concord Rd., Aston where friends may call after 9:30 AM. Burial will be at Edgewood Memorial Park.
