Obituary

William A. "Bing" Hewlings, 92, of Ridley Park died July 9, 2016 at Taylor Hospice Residence. Born and raised in Eddystone, he was the son of the late William P. and Mabel I. Baxter Hewlings, and resided in Claymont, DE before moving to Ridley Park 60 years ago.



Bing was a graduate of Eddystone High School, class of 1942 and entered the US Army in March of 1943. He served overseas with Infantry during the Italian & Southern France Campaigns of WWII and was awarded the Purple Heart Medal with one cluster, Combat Infantryman Badge, European-Middle Eastern ribbon with four stars and Good Conduct Medal. Bing was previously employed at Baldwin Locomotive Works, as well as Belmont Iron and Sun Shipbuilding & Drydock. He was an active member of Narberth Presbyterian Church where he served six years as a Deacon, 14 years as an Elder and 13 years as the Financial Secretary.



Bing kept a calendar of birthdays and sent dozens of cards each year. He was a Happy Hugger in the church toddler room and a volunteer at Taylor Hospice Residence. He was a member of the Ridley Park "Young at Heart" senior group and a member of the American Legion in Eddystone. Bing loved attending lacrosse games at Strath Haven, where son Jef is the coach. His smile touched the hearts of many of all ages and he will be deeply missed by family and friends who loved to be with him.



Bing was predeceased by his beloved wife of 55 years, Shirley Minshall Hewlings, who died August 19, 2009 and his son, William Robert "Robi" Hewlings.



Survivors: devoted father to Cynthia Jo Mullaney of Ridley Park, David W. Hewlings (Linda Thiel) of MA and Jeffrey M. Hewlings (Barbara) of Fleetwood, PA; and loving grandfather to Dana Miller, Bill Miller, Justin Hewlings (Michelle), Aaron Hewlings, Emily Jo Hewlings and Leah Noelle Hewlings



Memorial Service: 1:00 PM Monday, August 8, 2016 at the Narberth Presbyterian Church, 205 Grayling Ave., Narberth, PA 19072



Burial: Private
