Obituary

Thomas B. Luke, 97 of Aston, passed away peacefully surrounded by his loving family on Sunday, May 29, 2022.

Tom was born in Philadelphia on December 2, 1924 to the late Richard and Helene (Jordan) Luke. He was raised in Milmont Park, PA and graduated from Ridley Township High School, class of 1942. On his 17th birthday Tom enlisted in the US Navy and is a decorated veteran having served during World War II, earning the Good Conduct Medal, Asiatic Pacific Philippine Liberation, American Theatre and Victory Medals.

Tom married Marie B. Molteni in 1951 and moved to Woodlyn, PA before moving to Aston in 1952 where he was very active in his community. He served as an Aston Township Commissioner in the 1950's and 1960's. During that time, he was both sewer and water commissioner when the sewage system was retro fitted in Aston, as well as the township hall being built; he also served as the police commissioner.

After serving in the Navy, Tom was a professional baseball player and played in the Red Sox, Detroit Tiger and Philadelphia Athletics minor league organizations from 1946 through 1949. He worked for several companies throughout his life, primarily in food service and sales. He was last employed by the County of Delaware, retiring in 1989. After retirement, Tom was very active in the American Legion Post 926 Green Ridge and served as its President.

He was a longtime member of The Church of St. Joseph in Aston where he served as an usher and volunteered wherever needed. He was also a member of the Knights of Columbus.

Tom was a Founder of the Aston Valley Baseball League in 1962 and served as its President. He coached baseball for 15 years, He was inducted into the Aston Valley Walk of Fame during its 50th Anniversary on opening day in 2012.
Tom was inducted into the Aston Township Sports Hall of Fame in 2001 and is also in the Ridley High School Hall of Fame for baseball.
In addition to his parents, Tom was predeceased in death by his brothers Richard, John, Edward and three siblings who passed away as children, as well as many friends and relatives.

His love of sports, especially the Boston Red Sox and Notre Dame football was only surpassed by his love of family. He was a loving husband, a very proud father and enjoyed spending time with his children, grand and great grandchildren.

He is survived by his wife of seventy-one years Marie B. (Molteni) Luke; his children Marie B. DiGiulio (Philip), Richard T. Luke (Theresa), Donna H. Spencer (Richard), Elizabeth A. Luke, Patricia C. Reeves (Charles) and Thomas M. Luke (Sherry); also, 14 grandchildren, 10 great grandchildren; a niece and nephew.

Funeral Mass 11:00AM Tuesday, June 14, 2022 at The Church of St. Joseph, 3255 Concord Rd., Aston where relatives and friends may call 9:45 to 10:45 AM. Burial St. Thomas the Apostle Cemetery.
