Tom Daly, who died peacefully on August 25th, 2012, spent a good part of his 85 years giving what he could to his family, his community and his country. He attended LaSalle College High School while working nights at the soda fountain in the family's pharmacy in the Frankford section of Philadelphia. At age 17, he enlisted in the U.S. Army. Tom studied Japanese at the University of Pennsylvania, graduated from Penn State with a B.S. in Chemistry, and completed his Master's in Education at St. Joseph's University.
Tom married Martha (Sagan) in 1951, and they made their home in Ridley Park, Pa. They had six children, Thomas, Kate, Brian, Joseph, Patricia and Robert (deceased). Tom was a member of the American Chemical Society, and worked as a chemist at the Atlantic Richfield Refinery in Philadelphia and later at the Philadelphia Naval Shipyard. He served as Councilman in Ridley Park, church lector at St. Madeline's Parish, and was one of the founding members/coaches of the Ridley Park Boys Club. He enjoyed following the stock market, doing puzzles with his kids at the Jersey shore, eating chocolate ice cream, supporting Republican candidates, listening to Irish music and reciting Irish blessings. He will be missed by his grandsons Thomas IV, David, Sam and Andrew.
He is also survived by his brother Joseph (Sharon) and sisters Maureen Weiss and Margaret Kalb (George) and brother in law Robert Orr. He was predeceased by his sister Katherine Orr and brother John.
