Stephen "Poppy" Bernard, 76
of Aston, died March 7, 2011 at Crozer-Chester Medical Center, born in Chester he was reared in Trainer before moving to Aston in 1983.
Mr. Bernard attended Holy Ghost School and graduated from Chester High School, Class of 1952. He was a member of The Church of St. Joseph and a former member of Holy Ghost Ukrainian Church and St. Anthony of Padua. He was a senior mechanic in transportation at Philadelphia Electric Company for 25 years retiring in 1991, and was previously employed by Bryton Chemical Company and Eddystone Generation. Most recently he was a part-time custodian at the Aston Community Center. Mr. Bernard was a US Army veteran and WWII enthusiast, he also was an avid Phillies and Eagles fan, most important to him was his family and many friends.
He was husband of the late Rose Ann Rinaldi Bernard who died in 1996, son of the late Michael and Stella Telanko Bernard, brother of the late Julia Burns, Andrew, Peter, Walter and John Bernard and grandfather of the late Dylan J. Bernard who died in 2001.
Survivors: his son Stephen R. Bernard (Elaine) of Aston with whom he made his home, brothers Joseph Bernard of Aston, Michael Bernard of Boothwyn, sisters Mary DeFrank of Boothwyn, Elizabeth Vernon of Aston and Barbara Harper of Trainer. He also loved his grandson Brandon.
Funeral Mass: 10 AM Tuesday at The Church of St. Joseph, 3255 Concord Road, Aston.
Visitation: 7 to 9 PM Monday and 8:30 to 9:15 AM Tuesday at the White-Luttrell Funeral Home, 3551 Concord Road, Aston.
Burial: St. Thomas the Apostle Cemetery
