Shawn Patrick Prendergast was born on March 15,1959 and entered into eternal life on March 31, 2022, after a year's long battle with stomach cancer.
Shawn was born in Chester, PA to Marie Grant and Jack Prendergast and was a proud St. James Bulldog, class of 1977. After graduating from St. James and working for a bit of time, Shawn made his way to Hollywood Beach, Fla., where he lived and worked before returning home to Delco. Shawn married his best friend and the love of his life Maureen Babicki, and lived in Ridley Park for the last 34 years where they raised their son Patrick and daughter Holly. Those who knew Shawn would describe him as the most well-read and probably the smartest person they knew, the greatest champion Jeopardy never had the benefit to meet, a simple man who loved great food and drinks, having a good time enjoying great music, and the guy who was going to educate you on something even if you didn't want to hear it. And let's face it, he always knew what he was talking about and he was almost always right (411), whether you wanted him to be or not. Shawn was a truly brilliant mind, and we're all better for knowing him and having had the privilege of having spirited conversations with him. Shawn loved his Philadelphia sports and was an Eagles season ticket holder, and praise be to God, he was lucky enough to see the team win a Super Bowl (one of the things he always said better have happened before he died). Above all else, Shawn loved his family and friends and was grateful to be married to the great love of his life, Maureen. A staunch believer in education nothing made him prouder than sending Patrick and Holly to college where they both graduated with honors and entered into successful careers that they both love. The last few years of his life were blessed by the addition of Allie and Wyatt to the family, and he enjoyed teaching Wyatt the fundamentals of many sports but particularly baseball.
Predeceased by his parents Marie and Jack, and brother David, Shawn is survived by his loving wife Maureen, children Patrick (Allie), and Holly, grandson Wyatt, sister Patty Pankonien (Rick), brother Michael (Mary Lou), sister-in-law Reba, brother Marc, and many nieces, nephews, and friends.
In lieu of flowers, the family asks you to consider sending donations to Main Line Hospice Care. And most importantly Shawn would ask that you do something kind for those around you.
The funeral service is private, but to celebrate Shawn's life, his family asks that you please raise a Captain and Coke (no fruit) or a shot of Jameson, to send him off to the next life the way he would've wanted. He always said he was never afraid to die, and after a heck of a battle with cancer (where quite frankly he kicked butt), the least we can do is raise a glass and celebrate one heck of a guy who was taken from us all far too soon. As Shawn would've said… Sláinte!
