Obituary

Sarra Egonopoulos, 78, of Delaware County, passed away peacefully on March 31, 2017 at Riddle Memorial Hospital surrounded by her loving family.

A resident of Delaware County for most of her adult life, Sarra was known for her abundance of positive energy and unwavering love of family. She was an extraordinary homemaker and enjoyed the simple things in life, one characterized not by what she wanted but what she had, above all her family and faith.  She was guided by the Greek virtue of Philotimo, always endeavoring to do the right thing for her family and to sacrifice without expecting anything in return. Sarra was also deeply connected to her Greek heritage, which was anchored by her true faith and active membership in St. George Greek Orthodox Church.

Born in Aitovouni, Greece during the most economically challenging period in modern history, she endured unimaginable hardship, which was ultimately the source of her resilience and content to live a humble and simple life. The hard work ethic that Sarra developed in her early years laboring in tobacco and wheat farms would serve her well throughout her life's journey and it would later set a lasting example for her three children, Abraham, Konstantinos and Paul. In 1969, with the help of close family members, Sarra and her young family immigrated to the United States in search of a better life. They eventually settled in Eddystone, PA where Sarra lived for over forty years. One of Sarra's proudest accomplishments came in 2001 when she became a US Citizen.

One of Sarra's favorite hobbies and lesser-known talents was needlepoint, something she learned from her late mother, Eleftheria Hrysoverhi Andreadis. Sarra's love of this form of art can be seen in many of her embroideries.  She also enjoyed gardening and taking frequent and unusually long walks, something also true about her late father, Eleftherios Andreadis.  Sarra was a remarkably humble woman, whose memory will be eternal.

A lasting testament to her inner beauty, when asked what she wanted most, Sarra would often say, "all I want is Αγάπη και αρμονία (love and harmony)".

Sarra was the wife of the late Ioannis " John" Egonopoulos, her husband of 38 years, who died in 2001; daughter of the late Eleftherios and Eleftheria Hrysoverhi Andreadis and sister of the late Konstantinos "Dino" Andreadis. She is survived by her sons, Abraham (Antonia), Dean and Paul Egonopoulos; her brother George "Andre" Andreadis (Kathy) and sister Parthena "Bertha" Tourlitis (Nick); also grandchildren, Vasilie and Eleftheria Egonopoulos; sister-in-law Anna Andreadis; also nieces and nephews.
