Sarah Jane Guy, 35, of Ridley Park, died November 29, 2015 at home. Born in Upper Darby, she graduated as the Valedictorian from Ridley High School, class of 1998. Sarah earned her BA in International Studies from Boston College, class of 2002 and was the recipient of the Moakley International Service Award. She joined Americorp and started her journey of world travel and service in Albuquerque, NM. Before settling in Washington, D.C., Sarah worked in South Korea and San Jose, Ca.
She was last employed by Youth Services of America, as the educational manager. Sarah secured funding and was an advocate for incorporating volunteer programs into the elementary and middle school agendas. As recognition for her efforts, she was invited to a White House reception and later to the second Obama Inauguration and reception.
Sarah endeared herself to service learning and volunteerism. She was a sponsor for STREETSOCCER, USA, a program for the homeless in Wash. DC. Sarah gathered clothing, literature and mentored the homeless, and also worked with under-privileged children through art. She organized fundraisers for ovarian cancer awareness and research in Delaware County and Washington, D.C. and was an advocate for ovarian cancer research on Capitol Hill. Ever grateful for the dedication of Cancer researchers, Sarah founded a program that promotes notes to researchers to show appreciation and encouragement, Volley, which recently received grant funding. She gave much to many, but she never gave up.
She loved many art forms, but above all was dancing. She rehearsed and performed for the Joy of Motion dance studio in DC. With her group of marvelous friends, Sarah was able to travel through Ethiopia, Mexico, Chile, Vietnam and Costa Rica.
Sarah was daughter of Daniel A. and Patricia A. Banks Guy; sister of Jennifer L. Bernaski (Ryan) and Daniel M. Guy; aunt of Zachary, Alexander and Elizabeth Bernaski; she is also survived by aunts, uncles and cousins.
