Obituary

Sara Anna Michael (nee Bishop), 86, of Ridley Park, PA died peacefully at home on July 7, 2013.

Born to the late William and Mary Bishop in Chester, PA, she resided in Ridley Park for the past 61 years. Sara graduated from West Chester State College and after receiving her Masters degree from Temple University, she taught profoundly- handicapped children at the Summit School in Media for many years. Sara was an active member of the First Presbyterian Church of Darby, volunteering her time to Vacation Bible School, her Circle, and serving weekly lunches. Known for her beautiful soprano voice, Sara sang opera in her earlier years then served in her church choir. She was an avid reader, loved crossword puzzles, and enjoyed countless hours tending her garden. Most importantly, she loved spending time with her family and friends.

In addition to her parents, Sara is preceded in death by the love of her life, Samuel T. Michael Sr., granddaughter Ruth Ann Michael, and siblings Ethel Bishop, Emma Taylor, Mary Mohr, Florence Howie, and Joseph Bishop.

Survivors: Children Samuel T. Michael, Jr. (Deborah), Joseph R. Michael (Margaret), Sara A. Weller, Mary M. Michael, William B. Michael (Julia), and John J. Michael (Erinn). She was the proud grandmother to 17 grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.

A memorial service will be held at the First Presbyterian Church of Darby, 400 Main Street, Darby, PA. on July 31, 2013 at 10 am. In lieu of flowers, donations to the Friends of the Ridley Park Public Library, 107 E. Ward Street, Ridley Park, PA 19078 would be greatly appreciated.
