Sandra Ley Forney, nee Yorker came back to her sweet little house to spend her last days on the porch enjoying the sun, the warm breezes, homecooked food, visits from family and friends, and with gratitude for a life well lived. Mom reached for the hands of loved ones that left before her on March 13, 2020.

Sandie came into the world on February 20 1946, just after the end of WWII. She had a dynamic childhood raised outside of Browns Mills, NJ in the Jersey Pine Barrens. She had goats and dogs and the Jersey Devil for company. From this early beginning, mom established a life-long connection to nature and animals. She loved the forest and ocean. If you came over unexpectedly you would likely find her in the garden tending her flowers and vegetables. She loved animals from horses to dogs, cats, guinea pigs, and the multitude of other strays that found their way home to her.

She was a wife, mother, grandmother, great grandmother, cousin, auntie, friend, colleague, confidant, rescuer, partner in adventure and 'sister'. She adored her husband and felt his absence dearly over the last two years. She had a fierce circle of women in her life that she cared greatly for and who cared greatly for her. Mom was a woman of faith. She kept prayer with the ladies of her circle. Mom committed her life to caring for others pursuing a career in social work making a difference in the lives of the vulnerable in our communities. Her deep caring for people was often expressed in preparation of delicious food and baked goods for any and all. You would often leave her home with a mason jar of some home brewed sauce or soup or a package of home baked cookies in your mail box.

Mom is survived by daughters Lory Hawkfield (husband Brian), Tara Rihn (husband Edward), stepson Brian Forney (wife Stephanie); stepdaughter Michelle Tesche (husband Patrick); and grandchildren; Tagan, Hazel, Snowden, Kiran, Becca, Jessie, Cindy, Gabi, Zack, Jack; Aiden, Regan, Nate, Bella,; and great grandchildren; Elizabeth, Jayden, and Skylar.

She was predeceased by her mother Lois Carpenter, husband David Forney, and son Edward M 'Eddie' Meek.

She was deeply loved. She will be remembered as a kind and caring woman. Although her death leaves a gap in our lives, we are comforted in the knowledge that Mom was greeted by the welcoming arms of Eddie and David and other family members. Please keep her close in heart, mind and spirit as we do.
