Robert Charles Tiehel, aka "Bubba," "the Prince," "Bobby," 85, of Ridley Park, PA, joined many of the best people he knew in heaven on Friday, October 13, 2023. Born in Ridley Park, PA, Bubba grew up a "Leedom boy," attending Leedom Elementary School. He was a graduate of Ridley Township High Class of '56, and then earned a degree in education at Millersville State Teacher's College, Class of '60. He is an army veteran, having served in the 324th Medical Depot, Chester, PA. In 1966 he first began teaching history and mechanical drawing at Ridley North Junior High, and then later taught English at the Ridley Middle School. He coached the 110 lb football team for 31 years, first as an assistant to Dick Decker, then as the head coach. He influenced generations of Ridley football players and when he retired in 1997 his record was an incredible 150 wins, 18 losses, and 10 ties. His teams had 20 undefeated seasons, and 4 unscored upon seasons. In 2003, he was given the Ridley Old Timers President's Memorial Award. He was humble in his success, never taking credit and instead giving credit to Ridley's football tradition, the other coaches, the kids, and their parents.
He was smart, creative, a master of the limerick and pun, simultaneously an introvert and the life of the party, a lover of classical music, Frank Sinatra and bawdy jokes, and someone who walked around the house singing the oldies at the top of his lungs. He played the trumpet as a kid, he loved a good story (reading to his daughters often when they were kids), and did the New York Times Sunday crossword puzzle every week, in pen, as he liked to remind his family. As a teacher and coach, he was strict, but many students and friends love and remember him for his great sense of humor.
Predeceased by his wife of 58 years Patricia Tiehel (Armstrong), parents George and Ruth Tiehel, and his sister, Betty Geier. Survivors: Daughters Tamara Stedman, Amy Tiehel (David), and Tricia Tiehel, grandchildren Sophie Stedman, Annabelle Stedman, Carter Stedman and many other special family and friends.
