Robert C. Hite, Sr., 76 of Upper Chichester died February 1, 2025 at the Residence at Chadds Ford Assisted Living facility. Bob was born in Philadelphia, PA, son of the late Robert E., Jr. and Claudia Sutton Hite.
Robert was a 1965 graduate of Olney High School in Philadelphia, PA where he participated in cross country track and field. He earned a B.S. in 1969 from Cheyney University of Pennsylvania, where he also competed in track and was a member of Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity, Inc. In 1974, Robert earned a master's degree from Villanova University in Secondary School Science Education.
For 35 years he was employed as a life sciences educator and coach for the School District of Philadelphia, most of which were spent at Dobbins-Randolph Area Vocational Technical High School. For many years, he served as a coach for Dobbins High School women's basketball and softball teams, and as an advance scout for two Dobbins men's city championship basketball teams. Bob also served as a coordinator for the School to Careers summer vocational training program.
Bob was also employed with the Philadelphia Department of Recreation for over 10 years and coached his woman's softball team, the Roseties, to numerous city recreational league championships during his tenure.
Bob was very active in the Friends of Bill W for over 36 years. After retiring from teaching in 2005, Bob assumed various leadership and service roles in the prison outreach ministry for SEPIA. Bob was also an avid tennis player and was a member of the United States Tennis Association (USTA) where he competed for and captained various adult and senior tennis teams in the Delaware District leagues. In 2008, he captained a men's 50+ team that advanced to the National USTA championships in Las Vegas, NV.
Mr. Hite was a devoted member and former vestryman of St. Paul's Episcopal Church, Chester, and was previously a member of The House of Prayer Episcopal Church in Philadelphia where he was very active in youth and men's club ministries, the acolyte guild, as well as the church clerk.
Bob was also an avid sports fan and enjoyed attending live sporting events and rooting on his beloved Phillies, Eagles, and 76ers.
Survivors who cherish his memory include his sons Robert C. Hite, Jr (Alyssa) and Maurice Battle; sisters Gloria A. Ducker (Otis) and Patricia Hite Jackson; grandchildren Robert (Rah) Hite V, Joshua T. Hite, Grace P.S. Hite, Sutton D. Hite, and Sloane S. Hite; niece Tiffany J. Peters (Stefen); nephews Jesse T.D. Anderson and L. Anthony Williams, a very special big brother/uncle Millard "Milt" Sutton (Karen), and other beloved nieces, nephews, cousins, and close friends.
Memorial Mass and Eucharist 12 PM Saturday February 22, 2025 at St. Paul's Episcopal Church, 301 E. Ninth St. Chester, PA 19013 where friends may call 11 AM to 11:45 AM. Repast to follow.
An Alpha Phi Alpha Omega service will take place at 11:45 AM.
