R.L. Abraham Leunissen, M.D., 84, of Newtown Square died January 9, 2017 at Riddle Memorial Hospital. Born in Ternate, Indonesia (Dutch East Indies), he was the son of the late Rudolf Ferdinand and Rosa Leentje Bollegraf Leunissen and resided in Bala Cynwyd before moving to his late residence in 1975.
Dr. Leunissen was a graduate of the University of Amsterdam and he interned in the Netherlands and Washington Hospital Center in Washington, D.C. Dr. Leunissen was self-employed as a Cardiologist and Internist in a private practice along with his wife, Dorothy A. Piatnek Leunissen, M.D., for over 40 years. In their research, he and his wife were published authors. Dr. Leunissen was loved by his patients, staff and many friends. He was an avid reader, loved plants, flowers and animals. Dr. Leunissen was a selfless person always thinking of others before himself.
Dr. Leunissen was predeceased by his wife of 40 years who died March 2, 2003; and his brothers, Charles Leunissen and Ferdinand Leunissen.
