Obituary

Rita Honoria (nee Regan) Buchy, 93, of Ridley Township, PA passed away and went to her God on November 23, 2018. Born April 16, 1925 in the Swamppoodle section of North Philadelphia, she was the daughter of Irish immigrant parents, Michael Regan and Nora Healy, of County Roscommon and County Mayo. Along with her sisters, Anne and Mary, and brother, Michael, the Regans loved their childhood homes in St. Columba and Corpus Christi parishes. It was a home of music and laughter and love.

Rita was a 1943 graduate of John W. Hallahan Catholic Girls High School in Philadelphia, where she met lifelong friends. Upon graduation, Rita secured a job at PTC (now Septa) where her dear father worked. After WWII, Rita met Francis X. ("Bud") Buchy on a blind date. They went together only a short time and were married in 1950. After living in the city for two years, Rita and Bud moved to Milmont Park where they raised their family of six children. Rita and Bud had the most wonderful marriage of 60 years. Rita belonged to Our Lady of Peace Parish from 1953 until her death.

Rita worked as a Secretary for Widener University and Sun Ship Company while raising her family. After retiring, Rita and Bud traveled to Ireland and Florida. Both were active in the Pro-Life movement, trying to protect the unborn and help their Moms. Rita also kept busy being the self-proclaimed "Irish Matchmaker." She often said people were her hobby. Rita's deep love of her Catholic faith, her family and friends, and her positive and energetic way will forever be remembered. She was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, sister, aunt, and friend to many.

Rita was preceded in death by the love of her life, Francis Xavier ("Bud") Buchy and her dearest daughter, Nancy. Rita was also preceded in death by her wonderful sisters, Anne Sharkey and Mary Fitzgerald, as well as her dear brother, Rt. Rev. Msgr. Michael J. Regan. Rita so loved Bud's parents and her in-laws on both sides of the family, all who are with the Lord.

Rita is survived by her children, Francis X. Buchy, Jr. (Sharon), Mary Bailey (Richard), Nora Savukinas (Joseph), Sharon McNulty (Charles), and Michael Buchy (Jean Marie), the 20 grandchildren who will always be so near and dear to her heart and 21 great-grandchildren who brought such joy and laughter to Rita's later years, and many cherished nieces, nephews, great-nieces, great-nephews, and cousins.
