Devoted Husband, Father and Grandfather
Richard J. Touhill, 79, died peacefully surrounded by his family at his home on March 2, 2012. Born in Scranton and reared in Philadelphia, Mr. Touhill had lived in Swarthmore for the past forty years.
He was a graduate of West Catholic High School, Class of 1951, and was employed as a machine operator for General Electric for 37 years, retiring in 1989. Mr. Touhill was a member of Notre Dame de Lourdes R.C. Church and was previously a longtime member of Good Shepherd in Southwest Philadelphia. He was also a member of the U.S. Coast Guard Auxiliary, a licensed electrician and a licensed boat captain. Richard was a craftsman by nature and enjoyed traveling the U.S. with the love of his life Ellen in their RV and wintering in Florida, but most important was his family,especially his grandchildren. He was blessed to a part of his second family, the Glavin Clan.
Richard truly loved life and lived it to the fullest, he was loved and admired by everyone he met, and will be missed by all.
He was husband of the late Ellen C. Glavin Touhill who died May 8, 2009 after 55 years of marriage, son of the late Thomas Francis and Anna Higgins Touhill, grandfather of the late Michael E. Lewis and brother of the late John, Thomas "Bud" and Evelyn Touhill, Hortense Mack, Molly Kloe, Anna Maloney, Judy Kelly and Rita Lowitzer.
Survivors: father of Richard J. Touhill, Jr. (Jung Ja Kwon), Catherine A. Lewis (Michael), Ellen Madison (Don), Raymond D. Touhill (Joan) and Robert T. Touhill, grandfather of Rich, Betsy Lynn, Young Joon and Ryan Jin, Michaeline, Donald, Jill, Christie, Lauren, Rick and Jessica Rae, also survived by nine great-grandchildren.
Funeral Mass: 10:30 AM Wednesday at Notre Dame de Lourdes R.C. Church, 1000 Fairview Road, Swarthmore, PA 19081.
Visitation: 9:15 to 10:15 AM Wednesday at the church
Burial: SS Peter & Paul Cemetery
