Obituary

Dick Wilgus, 89, of Aston, PA and Ocean City, N.J., went Home to meet the Lord on February 14, 2021, after a short illness. Dick was born on December 28,1931 in Buffalo, New York to H.Earle Wilgus, Sr. and Janice Ganner Headley Wilgus.  Dick spent much of his early life in New England.

Dick was predeceased by his brother, H.Earle Wilgus, Jr.

Dick is survived by his wife of 66 years, Elizabeth G. Wilgus (Betty), daughters, Stacie Wilgus Luthultz and Janice Wilgus Shehan (Larry), grandchildren, Taylor L. Schoen, (Brett), Addison Wilgus Luthultz  (Rebecca), and Brigid  E. Shehan.

Dick is also great-grandpop to Jason S. Schoen, Lane B. Luthultz and Frances A. Luthultz.

Dick graduated from Haverford High School in 1950 and went on to Temple University to complete his degree in English and was also in Army ROTC.

While in college, Dick met Betty (Muller) in Youth for Christ at Grace Chapel and began dating through Dick's 4 years of college.

Dick and Betty were married on June 19, 1954 at Aldan Union Church.  Dick served in the U.S. Army for two years as First Lieutenant and was in the Transportation Corps at Fort Eustis, VA.  After returning to civilian life, Dick and Betty moved to Delaware County and settled in Aston. Dick began working for Scott Paper Company, now known as Kimberly-Clark.  Dick worked for RAM Associates- a head hunting company and went on to later become the Executive Director of the Chester and West Branch YMCA's. Dick also worked for the Delaware County Chamber of Commerce.

The last fourteen years before retiring, Dick chose to go back to school and earn his teaching certificate and Masters degree in education.  Dick taught in the Chester Upland School District and spent summers working with the Pew Foundation running the T.E.L.S. Program.

Summers from Dick's youth were spent in Ocean City, N. J. and while in college he worked and lived at the Flanders Hotel. Dick and Betty purchased a home in Ocean City in 1968 and spent 50 enjoyable years there. Even after retirement, Dick continued working at Playland on the boardwalk in Ocean City until 2018.

Dick and Betty were always involved in church and Bible study activities.  Early in their marriage they were High School youth group leaders at Aldan Union Church and later at North Chester Baptist Church. They also were involved on the board of Young Life in Delaware County.

For years, Dick lead a men's Bible Study at the Media Inn in Media, PA.  This  group of men were instrumental in starting the City Team Ministry in Chester.  Dick was a director on that board for 15 years.

Dick was a Penn Delco School Board member and President of the School Board.

Dick was a member of the Media Jaycees and was President of the Aston Arms Condominium Association for many years.

Dick will be remembered for his positive, gentle, gracious nature and his generous giving spirit.

According to all of us in his family we can truly say,

"He is a man after God's own heart," and always sought the Lord every day and in all circumstances.

Dick and Betty share the same life verse as their direction in life.

"Trust in the Lord with all of your heart, lean not on your own understanding.

In all your way acknowledge Him and He will direct your paths."

Proverbs 3:5 & 6

Gifts can be sent in Dick's memory to City Team Ministries-  634  Sproul Street, Chester PA.
