Richard A. "Dick" Janes, 67, of Ridley Park, died February 9, 2015, at his home.

Born in Philadelphia, he was son of the late George Norman and Ruth Vose Janes. Dick lived in Towanda and Spring City prior to moving back to Ridley Park over 30 years ago.

Artist. Comedian. Counselor. Dick Janes was all of these things to those who loved him. His acerbic wit and refreshing candor helped bring many friends and family members through personal crises, much better for the journey. Dick had an amazing ability to turn negatives into positives. He served as a hard-working volunteer and was a dedicated sponsor for many fellow AA members. His beloved Susquehanna University (class of 1969) provided him an opportunity to mentor local youth through the college selection process, even going so far as to fund a scholarship that bears his name. His substantial contributions were recently recognized by his alma mater when he received the Susquehanna University Outstanding Alumnus Award in November. His commitment to service also manifested itself in his chosen profession with the Social Security Administration, where he worked helping others for several years prior to his retirement.

He was a graduate of Ridley Park High School, class of 1965, and was an avid fan of Ridley High School lacrosse.

He is survived by his brothers Robert G. Janes and William A. Janes, six nieces and nephews, five grandnieces and nephews, and countless friends around the world.

Memorial service 11:00 AM Saturday, February 14, 2015 at the White-Luttrell Funeral Home, 311 N. Swarthmore Ave., Ridley Park, where friends may call after 10:00 AM. Burial private.
