Richard M. "Dick" Hartney, 69, of Norwood died February 26, 2018 at the Hospital of the University of Pennsylvania. Born in Philadelphia, he was the son of the late Richard Michael and Nancy Dunne Hartney and resided in Norwood for most of his life.
Dick was a graduate of St. James High School, class of 1966 and served in the US Air Force during the Vietnam War. He graduated with a BS in business administration from Widener University in 1985 while working full time and helping to raise his three girls. He was employed by Independence Blue Cross before retiring in 2014. Dick was a member of the VFW Post 7213 in Norwood and the American Legion. He was a dedicated volunteer to the Norwood Athletic Club and coached his children in softball and soccer. He loved traveling with his family and wife. Dick enjoyed time spent at the Hartney Hideaway in Lower/Slower DE, but most important was his loving family and devoted friends.
Dick was predeceased by his sister, Terri Hartney.
He is the husband of Joanne Mogan Hartney, his wife of 41 years; father of Joanne "Jay" Witzel (Rudi), Kimberly "Kimmy" Russo (Vincent) and Janette "Jet" Grieb (Kurt); brother of Mary Scull (Late Fran), Thomas Hartney (Lisa) and Michael Hartney (Kim); uncle to many nieces and nephews; Pop Pop to Rudi and Connor Witzel, Lorelei and Penny Grieb and Luca Russo and was looking forward to the next Russo on the way.
Visitation: 9:00-11:00 AM Saturday, March 3, 2018 at the White-Luttrell Funeral Home, 311 N. Swarthmore Ave., Ridley Park, PA 19078, followed by a burial with military honors at SS. Peter and Paul Cemetery.
