1936-2016

Richard A. "Dick" Newell, Sr., 79, lifelong resident of Ridley Park, died March 7, 2016 at the Hospital of the University of Pennsylvania. Born in Bryn Mawr, he was the son of the late Jacque Newell and Lorraine Sharpe Hillier.

Dick was a graduate of Ridley Park High School, class of 1955 and was employed by Lockheed Martin as a Model Maker for 35 years before retiring in 2000. He was a member of the Ridley Park Presbyterian Church. Dick was an avid Philadelphia sports fan and he enjoyed biking, surfing, fly fishing and life at Whale Beach, NJ. Most important to him was his family and many friends.

Survivors: loving husband of Patricia R. Moran Newell, his wife of 37 years; devoted father of Richard A. Newell, Jr. (Sheri-Lynn) and Michelle Tonkinson (Michael); and Ponytail Pop to his grandchildren, Avery Newell, Julia, McKenna and Kyla Tonkinson and his extended children on the beach.
