Obituary

Raymond F. Quinn, 84
Chester contractor, World War II veteran

Raymond F. Quinn, 84, Chester demolition contractor and Navy veteran of World War II, died June 23 at his son's home in Wilmington, Del.

Mr. Quinn, the son of the late Joseph H. and Helen V. Bunce Quinn, lived his life in Delaware County, most of it in Chester.

He attended St. Michael Catholic Grade School and St. James High School, both in Chester, before enlisting in the Navy. He served honorably in the Pacific Rim during WWII in communications.

Mr. Quinn and his wife, Frances A. Crispino Quinn, celebrated 54 years of marriage June 22, 2011. He will be remembered for his quick wit, ready ear, generous nature and solid work ethic.

Always the entrepreneur, he formed Quinn Wrecking Co. upon his return from the service. Among many accomplishments were early successes in demolishing once popular landmarks such as the Stanley Theater, Great Leopard Skating Rink and the Chester Car Barn. In addition, he donated construction services to the Don Guanella School in Springfield and Immaculate Heart of Mary Parish in Chester.

Though always consistent in his staunch Irish Catholic beliefs, life slowly taught him that his way was not always the only way.

Through the years, he was a parishioner of Resurrection of Our Lord, St. Robert and St. Rose of Lima Roman Catholic churches.

In addition to his parents, he was predeceased by a brother, Joseph M. Quinn.
