Obituary

Raymond J. Locke 92 of Aston, died on April 21, 2023 at his home after an extended illness.

He was born and raised in Chester before moving to Aston 59 years ago.

Ray worked at Scott Paper Company for over 20 years. He was an accountant for Delaware County Prison System which is now known as George W. Hill Correctional Facility. Ray also served as Tax Collector for Aston Township for four years.

Mr. Locke was a graduate of Chester High School's class of 1948 and has been an active member of its reunion committee. Ray graduated from PMC Evening Division's class of 1972 with a BS Degree in Accounting.

Ray was a US Navy veteran, serving during the Korean Conflict as a Navy Corpsman during the Inchon Invasion. After serving in Korea, he joined the Marine Corps Reserves, retiring after 23 years as a Senior Chief Hospital Corpsman.

As a child, Ray was a member of St. Paul's Episcopal Church in Chester. He sang in the boys' choir under the direction of the Rev. George Anderson who took the choir to perform at St. Paul's Cathedral on Manhattan's Upper West Side in the 1940s.

Mr. Locke was a member-at-large of the VFW, American Legion Post 926, Delaware County Coin Club, the Aston Township Republican Men's Club, a lifetime member of the Naval Enlisted Reserve Association, and the National Geographic Society.

Ray was an avid reader, an accomplished wood worker, a builder of objects large and small, and a longtime baseball card collector. Ray loved anything related to the Phillies; he attended two of the Phillies World Series games and even participated in Spring Training one year.

Most important to Ray was his loving family: especially his grandchildren and great grandchildren, who he cherished dearly.

Ray was the only son of the late Raymond Parker and Ruth Clendenning Locke, both of Chester. He was preceded in death by his son, Raymond James Locke II and his sister, Mona Locke Wood.

He is survived by his loving wife of 68 years, Norma S. Pierce Locke; his daughters Theresa Marie Friis (Jan), Sharon Ann Dugan and Jennifer Rose Baker (Bruce); daughter in law Maria Giovanni; 8 grandchildren, 7 great-grandchildren, and his sisters Betty Calise (Tony) and June Trudnak (Ray).
