Raymond J. Baksa, affectionately known to many as "Ray the Roofer," passed away at the age of 79 on August 4, 2025. A longtime resident of Eddystone, PA for 48 years. Ray was born in Philadelphia and carried a deep love for his community and those around him.
Ray was born on January 24, 1946 in Philadelphia, the son of James Baksa and Dorathy Kovich Baksa.
A proud Army Veteran, Ray served his country until being honorably discharged in 1967. He was a sharpshooter and cook, two skills he continued to cherish throughout his life. Ray was co-owner of the roofing company, "Let Lee Camp on Your Roof". He later retired from Boeing where he worked as a machinist.
Ray's life was rich with the things he loved - gardening, cooking, puzzles, and spending time with his family and friends. He especially cherished his role as "Pop-Pop" to his beloved grandchildren: Raymond, Joanna and Sophia. Whether he was telling a joke, pulling a prank or simply enjoying a conversation at the local bar, Ray's booming laugh and warm presence left a lasting impression on everyone he met.
Ray was a member of St. Rose of Lima R.C. Church, American Legion F.A. Scott Post 777 in Crum Lynne as well as the Sportsman Club in Chester and the Sun Village Sports Club.
Ray was predeceased by his loving wife of 39 years Joanne Butkus Baksa who died on December 6, 2012 and his brother James Baksa.
Ray is survived by his loving son Edward Butkus and daughter-in-law Kelly; grandchildren, Raymond, Joanna, and Sophia; his brothers-in-law, sisters-in-law, nieces, nephews and cousins and of course his faithful dog, Diamond, who was never far from his side.
Ray chose to make one final act of generosity by donating his body to science through the Humanity Gifts Registry, reflecting his lifelong spirit of giving and service.
Ray will be remembered for his vibrant personality and his deep love for family and friends. He will be missed beyond measure and celebrated always.
Ray is now reunited with the love of his life, his wife, Joanne.
In lieu of flowers, the family asks that you honor Ray's memory by making a donation to FA Scott American Legion Post 777, 137 Walter Street, Crum Lynne, PA 19022 or by sharing a meal with loved ones, planting something in your garden or pulling up a stool and making a new friend – just as Ray would have done.
