Peter J. Eleutheriou, age 87, passed away peacefully on November 12, 2025. He is now reunited with his beloved wife Kyriaki "Kiki" who preceded him in death but who remained forever close to his heart. Married for nearly 52 years, Pete and Kiki built a life filled with hard work, family, and devotion. Both Pete and Kiki were very proud of their Greek heritage and the rich history, traditions, and values of their culture.
Born in Chester, PA, to parents John and Evangelia "Angie" Eleutheriou, Pete spent his early years in New York before returning home to Chester, where he graduated from Chester High School in 1955. After proudly serving in the U.S. Army from 1957 to 1959, he joined his father in running John's Doggie Shop, a business that started out in Chester in 1948 as a 5-stool hot dog stand. Under Pete's dedication and drive, and with the help of his family & close cousins and many dedicated employees, the eatery grew into a 48-seat restaurant, eventually expanding to five locations across three states, including one franchise. Pete's work ethic and commitment were at the heart of that success as well as his exuberant personality and rapport with customers.
A natural athlete, Pete loved sports, especially basketball, and he was a standout player in various Delaware County Rec Leagues. He also supported the basketball program of the Chester High Clippers and took great joy in sponsoring their summer league camps to help them thrive. As a young boy he cheered for the Brooklyn Dodgers, but the Philadelphia Eagles became his lifelong passion. He was a devoted season ticket holder and attended the team's first two Super Bowls.
Pete was predeceased by his father John (1982), his mother Evangelia "Angie" (2001), and his wife Kyriaki "Kiki" (2013). He is survived by sons John (Debbie) and George and by daughters Angie Deligiannides (George) and Stamatia "Tia" Vasilopolous (Taki). He also leaves behind 12 grandchildren and 11 great-grandchildren.
Affectionately known as both "Sweet Pete" and "Hot Dog Pete," he leaves behind a legacy of warmth, generosity, and genuine care for others. He treated everyone with respect, greeting customers and friends alike with kindness and always with a good story. He will be remembered fondly by all who knew him and by the many people whose lives he touched through his work, his loyalty, and his gentle spirit.
