Obituary

Patricia A. "Patti" Bonner (nee Novielli), a lifelong resident of Ridley Park died on November 15, 2024 at Arista Care at Meadow Springs.  Born in Darby, she was the daughter of the late Domenic and Helen Cooney Novielli. Patti was a graduate of Cardinal O'Hara High School, class of 1975 and received a bachelor's degree from West Chester University in 1979.

Patti was an amazing, caring, and gifted educator in the Catholic school system for 43 years. She started at the old St. Roberts School, and after some time off after the birth of her 3 children, subbed at various schools throughout the county until she found a home at Notre Dame de Lourdes in 1993. She had few core beliefs as a teacher, opting to keep it simple. At the core of these beliefs was her love of the classroom dynamic with the teacher commanding the room from anywhere in the room. She believed she had one main function, and that was simply to teach - all day and every day. The other core belief that she possessed was that good teachers taught not only from the book but from the heart, truly believing that if compassion did not lie in the heart of the teacher, that it be not found in the classroom.

A true measure of the significance of her impact on her students could be seen year after year when former students would return to heap praise upon her for the positive impact she had on their lives. Her husband always told her that she may never get rich from teaching, but these testimonials were worth their weight in gold and memories that she could take with her forever.

A devoted wife of 42 years, her husband never wanted for any of the finer things that a marriage could boast. A doting and loving mother, she instilled the same traditional values that she inherited from her parents into her children. The end result being that Patti and her husband made a great team in raising three children into fine young men and fathers.

Patti was an extraordinary homemaker with culinary skills to match. Her husband and her boys enjoyed a home cooked meal every day of the week except Saturday, which she declared sandwich day to give herself a break. In later years she became an exceptional baker, with cheesecakes as her main specialty. It needs to be said that she did all of this in the first decade of her children's lives while her husband was out at sea as a merchant marine for 2 weeks out of each month. Her kids were always well-dressed, well-fed, and on time to school and any and all clubs or sports.

Patti took a great sense of pride in her finely honed sense of fashion sporting all the latest styles and trends, and accessorizing them to the max. She always took great pride in dressing for each and every occasion.

In closing, Patricia Anne Marie was always possessed with a certain degree of grace and class. It was never something she had to work at and never had to flaunt. She just walked with it each and every day. What you saw was what you got - she was always the genuine article. She will be sadly missed by one and all.

She is survived by her husband of 42 years Kevin T. Bonner, sons Justin Bonner (Marissa), Joshua Bonner (Kristen) and Shane Bonner (Jennifer), brother Stephen Novielli (Karen), sisters Maribeth Moehrle (Tom), Joan D'Angelo (Alan), the late Rosemarie Julien (Joseph), grandchildren Aria Rose, Savannah Grace, Colton James, and Mackenzie Anne, as well as aunts, uncles, cousins and many nieces and nephews.
