Norman E. Donkin , Sr., 84 of Ridley Park, died January 17, 2015 at Crozer-Keystone Hospice at Taylor surrounded by family. Born in Washington, PA son of the late William and Anne Ireland Donkin, he had been a resident of Ridley Park since 1960.
Mr. Donkin was a graduate of Washington High School, class of 1949 and attended the Pittsburgh Institute of Aeronautics. Norman was a US Navy Veteran who served during the Korean War. He was employed as an Aircraft Mechanic for United Airlines for many years, retiring in 1992. Norman was a fifty year member of Chambers Memorial Presbyterian Church where he also served as a Deacon. He was a member of Prospect Park Lodge #578 F. & A.M. and was a life member of the Ridley Park Fire Company. He was an avid reader and enjoyed attending his grandchildren's sporting events, collecting antique glassware and spending summers and weekends at Lake-In-Wood Campground in Berks County, but most important was his family, especially his grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
He was loving husband of the late Joan Stewart Donkin who died March 27, 2013 after 58 years of marriage and brother of the late Bessie Frisel and Bill Donkin.
Survivors: father of Ned Donkin, Jr. (Karen) and Mark Donkin (Suanne), grandfather of Heather, Courtney (Brian), Becky, Norm, Dana Boon (Jody), Tara Valletti (Joe) and Bill Rowe (Jenn), also nine great-grandchildren.
Funeral Service: 10 AM Thursday, January 22, 2015 at Chambers Memorial Presbyterian Church, Two Sylvan Ave, Rutledge, PA
Visitation: 6 to 8 PM Wednesday at the White-Luttrell Funeral Home, 311 N. Swarthmore Ave., Ridley Park and 9 to 9:45 AM Thursday at the church.
Burial: Edgewood Memorial Park
