Nora T. (nee Hopkins) McLaughlin, of Ridley Park, passed away peacefully on Monday, June 13, 2022 surrounded by her loving family and caregivers. She was 88. Preceded in death by Bill McLaughlin, her caring husband of 62 years. Nora is survived by her loving children, Bill McLaughlin (Peggy), Joanne Kerins (Tom), Peg Clancy (Bob), Ed McLaughlin (Lynn), Eileen Orr, and Nora Dever (Jim). Born in Philadelphia to Irish immigrants, Margaret and John Hopkins. Sister to the late John Hopkins, Anna Callinan, Mary O'Hollaran, James Hopkins, and Ellen Sulzbach. Nora is survived by her sister, Margaret Collins.
Nora graduated from West Catholic in 1951, where she was on the debating team and made lifelong friends. She was an active member of St. Madeline's parish for over 40 years and her faith sustained her through life. She loved to entertain, enjoyed singing and dancing at family gatherings, and her door was always open to family and friends to drop in and say hello. She was known for her ready and dimpled smile. Nora loved people so she was a natural at selling classified ads at The Philadelphia Inquirer for over 25 years, retiring in 1995. In retirement, Nora devoted herself to caring for her family, and in particular her grandchildren, who loved her greatly, and enjoyed spending time with their fun-loving Grandmom. As an avid reader her favorite outing with the grandchildren was the library. She was very proud of all of her grandchildren and had a special relationship with each of them. Nora and Bill enjoyed traveling, especially to Ireland, where they reunited with relatives. Nora will be greatly missed and will always be remembered for her kindness, compassion, generosity and unwavering love and support of her family.
