Devoted Mother, Grandmother and Great-Grandmother


Meta Smith Davis, 94, of Ocean Grove, NJ died on February 1, 2012 at Manor By The Sea. Born in Bethel Township, Mrs. Davis lived in Chadds Ford prior to moving to her late residence in 1946.

Mrs. Davis was co-owner of the Pathway Market and Lorraine Hotel along with her late husband. She was a member of St. Paul's U.M. Church in Ocean Grove and the United Methodist Women. Meta enjoyed sewing, crocheting and needlepoint, she was a wonderful cook and baker and was known for her baked goods and cooking at the Pathway. She loved traveling, especially to Hawaii and was most passionate about her family.

She was wife of the late Thomas Walter Davis who died in 1982 after 47 years of marriage, daughter of the late Harry E. and Lottie E. Booth Smith, sister of the late Alvah G. Smith, Emily L. Whartnaby, Harry E. Smith and Walter L. Smith.

Survivors: mother of Meta Joan Brown (Herman) and Eleanor Carol Shallo (Dominick), grandmother of Brenda Rice (Kenneth), Sandra McEwan (David), Lisa Rinaolo (Ronald), Alan Brown (Alicia) and Scott Shallo (Kelly), great-grandmother of Steven, Daniel, Michael, Pamela, Lauren, Christopher, Sarah, Julia, Katheryn, Nicholas and Gianna.

Funeral Service: 11 AM Wednesday at the White-Luttrell Funeral Home, 3551 Concord Road, Aston

Visitation: after 10 AM Wednesday at the funeral home

Burial: Siloam Cemetery
