Obituary

In Loving Memory of Maryann McLoughlin-O'Donnell.  On Monday, June 24, 2024, Maryann McLoughlin-O'Donnell, loving wife, mother, and grandmother, passed away at the age of 82 surrounded by family and friends.  Maryann was born December 29, 1941, to Thomas I. and Margaret A. Pratt McLoughlin in Chester, Pennsylvania.  Maryann graduated from Widener College with a BA in English in 1977.  She was awarded a Master's in English in 1979 and a PhD in Victorian, Modern British, Literary Criticism in 1984 from Temple University.  On September 12, 1981, she married Michael Andrew O'Donnell.  They raised one daughter, Moira An.

Those who knew Maryann described her as a woman of integrity, grace, and honor.  She was known for her quick wit and kind and compassionate spirit.  Maryann was a Peace Corps Volunteer from 1968-1970 in Oujda, Morocco where she worked as a teacher of young children and administrator of a women's center.  Maryann was also a visiting professor in China from 1984-1986 where she taught English Literature to graduate students at Nankai University.

She was a member of St. Francis of Assisi R.C. Church.  Maryann enjoyed gardening, reading, and traveling, but most important was her family and many friends.

Maryann was a cherished member of the community.  Maryann was the longtime Assistant Supervisor of Stockton University's Sara and Sam Schoffer Holocaust Resource Center.  Her leadership and dedication to the local Holocaust survivors of Vineland, New Jersey helped to preserve the life stories of over 60 survivors, rescuers, and liberators.  Her work has impacted thousands of New Jersey students learning about the Holocaust.  Her legacy lives on through the lessons and legacies detailed by Holocaust survivors in the memoirs they left for future generations.

Maryann is predeceased by her siblings, Michaele C. McLoughlin, Blaise A. McLoughlin, and Megan R. McLoughlin.

She is survived by her husband, Michael, her daughter, Moira An, and grandson, Nathan Michael.  Maryann was the sister of Deirdre I. McLoughlin and Christopher J. McLoughlin; also survived by many nieces, nephews, grand nieces and nephews and many friends.

The family will be having a funeral service on July 9, 2024.  Visitation at 10:00AM with mass to follow at 11:00AM at St. Thomas the Apostle, 430 Valleybrook Road, Glen Mills, PA 19342.
