Mary Shereba (nee Pondok), 98, peacefully passed away on Good Friday, March 29, at Harlee Manor Nursing Home in Springfield, PA.
She was predeceased by her husband John, sisters Anna, Irene, and Jean, brothers Alex, Michael, Stephen, and William, and parents Stephan Pondok and Lucy Tatusko Markiew.
In her early years, she worked at the Irving Worsted wool mill in Chester, then later, until she was 80, at the Holiday Inn in Essington, PA, as a maid. She lived in Eddystone, PA, on her own, until 2 1/2 years ago. Her favorite pastimes were crocheting, knitting, and ceramics.
She was a devout, longtime member of the Holy Ghost Ukrainian Catholic Church, and belonged to the Apostleship of Prayer.
She lived a contented life of generosity and selflessness, especially enjoying family gatherings and preparing traditional family meals during the holidays.
Her kind spirit and gentle warmth were foundations for her family and inspirations to those she touched. She saw everything through an enthusiastic and optimistic lens, making for countless wonderful memories that will be cherished forever.
Survivors: Daughter Dolores Kostyk (Walter) of Ridley Park, grandson Walter of Dimock, PA, grandson William (Kim) of Ridley Park, and great grandsons Stephen, Andrew, and Aaron.
Funeral Service: 10 AM Thursday, April 4, 2013 at Holy Ghost Ukrainian Church Catholic Church, 3015 W 3rd. St., Chester, PA 19013
Visitation: 7 to 9 PM Wednesday with Parastas at 8 PM by the Very Reverend John N. Ciurpita and 8:15 to 9 AM Thursday at the White-Luttrell Funeral Home, 311 N. Swarthmore Ave., Ridley Park.
Burial: SS. Peter & Paul Cemetery
In lieu of flowers, contributions in her memory may be made to Holy Ghost Ukrainian Catholic Church.
