Mary Jane Zurschmit Hawk, 84, of Ridley Park died March 17, 2012 at the Hospital of the University of Pennsylvania. Born in Akron, OH where she lived until she married her late husband William P. Hawk a retired Navy Veteran who died December 8, 1978 after 32 years of marriage. They traveled extensively as a military family until settling in Prospect Park.
Mary Jane was a graduate of Jackson High School in Massillon, OH where she was a cheerleader. She was employed as an executive secretary at Westinghouse for 29 years. She was a member of the Church of St. Madeline and had previously been a member at St. Gabriel's Catholic Church. Mary Jane was a member of the National Chrysanthemum Society, Parents Without Partners and the Ladies Auxiliary, American Legion Post #507 Norwood. She had been a volunteer at Taylor Hospital for over ten years and enjoyed crocheting afghans and reading, but above all she cherished her family and loved each unconditionally.
She was daughter of the late Kenneth and Sarah Jane Collins Zurschmit and sister of the late Donald Zurschmit.
Survivors: mother of Pam Carey (Mike) of Glen Mills, Pat Horn (Ray) of Elizabethtown and Lynn Raftovich (Bill) of Ocean View, DE, sister of Franklin Zurschmit of Virginia Beach, VA, also survived by eight grandchildren, seventeen great-grandchildren and one great-great grandson.
Funeral Mass: 10:30 AM Wednesday at The Church of St. Madeline, Penn Street and Morton Avenue, Ridley Park
Visitation: 9:15 to 10:15 AM Wednesday at the Church
Burial: Private
