Martin M. "Marty" Wendel, 86, died March 15, 2015 at Rose Tree Place.

Born in Shamokin, Marty lived in Glen Mills and Claymont before returning to Glen Mills 14 years ago.

He was a Chemical Engineer for DuPont Company for 43 years where he developed several patents and computer programs. Marty was a graduate of Archmere Academy, the University of Pennsylvania and the University of Delaware. He also completed courses at the Berklee School of Music where he composed and arranged music and played the piano.

He was a former member of Holy Rosary R.C. Church in Claymont. Marty was a member of St. Thomas the Apostle R.C. Church, St. Francis Renewal Center in Delaware where he played the organ, also playing in various other churches and schools, the Page Turners Book Club, Rhythm Drs., the Serenaders and the DuPont Retirees. He was a U.S. Navy veteran.


He was son of the late Harry P. and Kathryn Vanaman Wendel and brother of the late Nancy Cariello (late Frank).


Marty is survived by his wife of 31 years, Mary Margaret â??Megâ?? Noel Wendel; his children Michael Wendel (Melody), Stephen Wendel (Jane), Daniel Wendel, Joan Wendel (Jim), David Boyle (Lisa) and Amy Walters; siblings Dr. Henri Wendel (Gloria) and Kathleen Kerwin (Jim); eight grandchildren; also many nieces and nephews.


Funeral Mass 10:30 AM Saturday, March 21, 2015 at St. Thomas the Apostle R.C. Church, 430 Valleybrook Road, Glen Mills where friends may call 9:15 to 10:15AM.
