Marie A. Nicolai, 100 years old, a longtime resident of Ridley Park, died July 15,2022 at the home of her daughter and son-in-law surrounded by her loving family. Born in Millville,N.J. and raised in South Philadelphia, she was the daughter of the late Augustine and Rosina Varrenti Gentile.

After graduating from Southern High School,class of 1940, she worked in a defense plant. She also sang on an Italian Stage in and around Philadelphia. After the war she worked as a long-distance operator for Bell Telephone. She married George M. Nicolai in 1948 and they settled in Ridley Park where they raised their children. Marie was a volunteer at School House Community Center and at Taylor Hospital,where she was also a Junior Board member. Marie was a longtime member and past President and board member of the Ridley Park Seniors. She also loved music,dancing,reading and playing cards with her friends. She loved her many friends and her children's friends that were like family to her. She also loved her nieces and nephews and loved spending time with her extended family but most important was being with her immediate family.

Marie was the wife of the late George M. Nicolai, who died on November 19,1993 after 46 years of marriage, mother of Janet McSwiggan(Joe), Rosemarie Daly(Dan) and the late Lili R. Nicolai, grandmother of Kelly, Joseph(Jennifer), Heather(Thomas), Daniel(Kristen), Jana(Greg) and Jaclyn(Michael), great-grandmother of Nicholas, Kayla, Patrick, Matthew, Lilly, Emma, Anthony and Alyssa, and sister of the late Augustine "Gus" Gentile and Lillian Luzzi.

Visitation 6:30 to 8:30 PM Friday,July 22,2022 and 8:30 to 9:15 AM Saturday July 23,2022 at the White-Luttrell Funeral Home, 311 N. Swarthmore Avenue,Ridley Park. Funeral Mass 10 AM Saturday, July 23,2022 at The Church of St. Madeline, 400 Morton Ave.,Ridley Park. Burial SS. Peter and Paul Cemetery.
