Marian Yergey Erle, 96 of the Maris Grove Community in Glen Mills, died on June 17. 2026. Born on a farm in Lahaska, PA in 1929, she was the daughter of the late Martin Luther and Sadie M. Rice Yergey. She would talk about it often as she loved living on the farm. She loved being out in the field, standing on a big rock just singing her heart out! They lived on the farm until she was 13 when her parents and her four sisters moved to Boothwyn, PA.
Marian graduated from Upper Chichester High School in 1947. While roller skating at the Great Leopard in Chester, PA. which she loved to do, she met John Robert Erle and they married in July of 1949. Marian worked at the W. T. Rawleigh Co. in Chester, PA as a secretary until her first child, Linda (Nick) Erle Biddle, was born in 1954. She then became a homemaker and had two more children, David John Erle and Martin Charles Erle.
Marian was a member of Mount Hope UMC since March 25, 1956. She taught Vacation Bible School for several years and was in charge of the church kitchen for 16 years. She sang in the church choir as well as the Joy Singers for many years. She was a member of the Willing Workers Sunday school class from 1956 until it disbanded when the teacher retired in the spring of 2017. After her children grew up she was the church secretary at Mount Hope UMC and then at Wayne UMC.
Marian was happiest when she was around her family. She loved talking about her childhood days and sharing stories to others about her children, grandchildren (Lauren [Dave] Biddle Plummer and Anne [Ben] Biddle McCracken) and 4 great grandchildren (Norah, Evan, Elliot and Camille). She loved making crafts and going to garage sales in the summer. Traveling and camping in their RV with John was always a highlight. She was a wonderful cook and loved family dinners, especially her amazing Christmas parties.
After losing John in 2007, she moved to Maris Grove and found great friends and new activities. She was the first marriage to take place in the chapel there when she married Ken Horton in 2010. They were married until he passed in 2023.
Burial will be private.
