Margaret Livia Lalla Marquardt died Sunday October 21, 2012 of complications resulting from a stroke she suffered a year ago. A woman of great kindness, Margaret touched the lives of all who knew her. Margaret was born and raised in Collingdale, PA, the daughter of Italian immigrants, the late Giuseppi and Giacomina Menoni Lalla, grandmother of the late Kiersten and sister of the late Michael Lalla.
Margaret was a cheerleader at Collingdale High School and graduated in 1949. Five years later, she married her high school sweetheart, James Joseph Marquardt, and for the rest of her life resided in Folsom, PA. A devoted wife, mother and grandmother, Margaret dedicated her life to her family. She held a variety of part-time jobs, selling children's clothing at Feinberg's department stores in Darby and Glenolden, and breads and sweets at Vienna Bakery in Holmes. Before and during her retirement, Margaret volunteered at Mother's Home, a women's shelter in Darby. As a member of the board of directors of the Collingdale High School Alumni Association, she organized class reunions and took heartfelt interest in awarding post-high school education scholarships to worthy young men and women. Devoted to her Catholic faith and with special fondness for the Blessed Mother, Margaret was an active member of the Our Lady of Peace Church and the Sodality. For many years she cleaned and pressed altar linens with the same devotion she gave to caring for her own home. Margaret's greatest joys were her children and grandchildren, and cherished her family's annual summer vacations in Ocean City, NJ. One of her most memorable holidays occurred in 1998, when she traveled with her sister Marie to their parents' homeland in Italy.
