Obituary

Margaret H. Helm Light, 98, of Maris Grove died October 12, 2019. Born in Rosslyn Farms, PA, daughter of Raymond Morris and Dorothy Faunce Helm, she had previously resided in Lansdowne and Aston, PA.

After graduating from Smith College in 1943, she served with the American Red Cross in North Africa, Corsica and France during World War II. She worked for the Girl Scouts in Pittsburgh and Glendale, CA. After teaching Girl's Physical Education at Rye Country Day School in Rye, NY, Mrs. Light spent two years in Germany doing service club work with army special services. It was then that she met her first husband, Clayton L. Hurlburt, who died in 1985.

Appointed by Governor Thornburgh, she served five years on the Pennsylvania State Board of Education. Margaret taught second grade in the Penn Delco School District for 18 years, before retiring in 1983. In 1994, she married Frederick H. Light and moved from Aston to his home in Lansdowne. Her interests were her family, education, politics, sports, reading, bridge and crossword puzzles.

Margaret was mother of Clayton L. Hurlburt, Jr. and Laurence R. Hurlburt, stepmother of Wilma Light, Fred Light, Jr. and Susan Durgin, grandmother of Stuart M. Hurlburt and Sara D. Barnick, seven step-grandchildren, great-grandmother of Hayley and Lucas Barnick and Michael Hurlburt, and sister of Harry W. Helm.

Funeral services were held privately.
