Margaret "Peggy" Friel, beloved wife, mother, and grandmother of Ridley Park, PA, entered Heaven on Thursday, June 1, 2023.

Born to Daniel and Dorothy (Lowry) Scanlan, Peggy grew up in Southwest Philadelphia, PA and graduated from West Catholic High School for Girls. Shortly after graduation, Peggy married her high school sweetheart, William P. Friel, and together they raised six children and celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary in 2019. Earning her undergraduate degree from Neumann University and her master's degree from Temple University, Peggy devoted her professional career to teaching. Dedicating herself as an educator in the Ridley School District, Peggy passionately cared for her former students and colleagues at Edgewood Elementary School.

Deeply committed to her Catholic faith, Peggy served as a devout parishioner of the Saint Madeline Parish and as substitute teacher at Saint James Regional Catholic School following her retirement. With rosary beads forever in her hands, Peggy believed fiercely in the power of prayer.

Affectionately known as "Me-mom" to her grandchildren and great-grandchildren, Peggy experienced great joy in the time she spent with her family.

Preceded in death by her parents, husband, son, Adam, and brother, James Scanlan. Peggy is survived by her children: Billy, Kristin Harris (Mick), Michael (Maddie Crowley), Patrick (Deborah), and Rory (Christie); grandchildren: Cory (Megan), Caroline, Blaise, Brayden, Nolan Ryan, Garrett, Liam, Payton Rose, Finnegan, Hadley, Greyson, and Declan, and great-grandchildren, Sophie and Ellie. Also, her sisters, Marijean Hemmert (Mark), Judy Civera (Edward); brothers, Daniel Scanlan and Richard Scanlan (Bethann); her brother-in law, Charles Friel (Peggy); sister-in laws, Gena Scanlan and Eileen Scanlan; nieces and nephews.

Funeral Mass:  10:30 AM on Saturday, June 10, 2023, at the Church of St. Madeline, 400 Morton Ave., Ridley Park, PA 19078, where relatives and friends may call from 9:00-10:15 AM.
