Leo G. Van Derziel, Jr.

Leo Glen Van Derziel, Jr., 88 of Norwood died on September 29, 2026 at his home. Born in Detroit, MI, the son of the late Leo Glen and Eleanor Antionette Kitchen Van Derziel, he had lived in Philadelphia before moving to Norwood five years ago.

After graduating in 1955 from the Cass Technical High School in Detroit, MI, Leo joined the United States Navy. Before his retirement in 1993 he was employed as a mechanical engineer for the United State Post Office at the 30th Street location and had previously worked for Sperry Univac-Unysis.

He was the loving husband of the late Elaine S. Gaughan Van Derziel, father of Robert G. Van Derziel (Maryt Blay), Patricia Bell (late Robert), Colleen A. Shadwick and Kathleen L. Riordan (James), brother of Jan Van Derziel, Bonnie Leone and the late Gary Van Derziel, Maryellen Brittain and John Van Derziel, brother-in-law of Bill Leone and Larry Brittain. Leo is also survived by 11 grandchildren and 13 great-grandchildren.

Funeral Mass 10:30 AM Wednesday, October 7, 2026 at St. Gabriel R.C. Church, 233 Mohawk Ave., Norwood where a visitation will take place from 9:15 to 10:15 AM. Burial will follow Mass in SS. Peter & Paul Cemetery.
