Obituary

Lawrence James Hyland, M.D., 56, of Essexville, was born into eternal life on the evening of Friday, November 29, 2013 at his home in Essexville surrounded by his loving family after a courageous battle with cancer. Larry was born in Philadelphia, PA. on June 26, 1957, the son the former Marie Allen and the late Lawrence Joseph Hyland.


Larry graduated with a B.S. in Biochemistry from St. Joseph University, and completed laboratory research at both the University of Pennsylvania and SmithKline. While at SmithKline, he would go on to meet the former Susan Fisher. They dated, fell in love and were united in marriage on September 5, 1987 in Radnor, PA. Their marriage was blessed with twenty six years and four children. Larry went on to obtain a M.S. in Biology from Villanova University. He received his M.D. from the Thomas Jefferson University Medical College in 1995 and served his residencies at the Hospital of the University of Virginia, Temple University Hospital and the Hospital of the Thomas Jefferson University Medical College. Larry was a hardworking and devoted pathologist. He currently served the community at Bay Pathology and Flint Pathology in Michigan.


Larry enjoyed spending time at his cottage in Tawas, as well as spending time at the Jersey Shore. His passion for lacrosse will always be remembered. Larry was instrumental in bringing lacrosse to the Bay City area. He was a member of the A.M.A., C.A.P., as well as the U.S. Lacrosse Assoc. Larry's love for his family was unwavering. He was a proud and loving husband, father, son, brother and uncle who was always joking, yet always kind. His memory will live on in the hearts of his family and friends for generations to come.


Survivors: Larry leaves to cherish his memory his devoted wife, Susan. He was the unconditional loving father of Elizabeth, David, Rachel and John Hyland. Larry is also survived by his mother, Marie Hyland; brothers, Steven (Joanne), Timothy (Eileen), Daniel, Christopher (Gianna), Michael (Colleen) and James (Maria), along with many nieces, nephews, in-laws and friends.


Memorial Mass: 10:30 AM Saturday, December 28, 2013 atThe Church of St. Madeline, Penn St. and Morton Ave., Ridley Park


Visitation: 6 to 9 PM Friday at the White-Luttrell Funeral Home, 311 N. Swarthmore Ave., Ridley Park and 9:15 to 10:15 AM Saturday at the church


Burial: Private
