Lavinia M. "Lee" (nee Carr) Luke, 93, of Brookhaven, died June 12, 2014, at the home of her daughter and son-in-law. Born in Chester, the daughter of the late James and Lavina Ashworth Carr, she lived in Glenolden before moving to Brookhaven 33 years ago.
Lee was a graduate of Chester High School and was employed as an accounting clerk for Great Atlantic & Pacific Tea Co. (A&P). She previously had worked for Shooster's and Baldwin Lima Hamilton Locomotive. Lee was a parishioner at Our Lady of Charity R. C. Church and lived her faith as a Roman Catholic.
She was a member of the Notre Dame de Lourdes seniors and an officer of NARFE (National Association of Retired Federal Employees). Lee loved sewing and made clothing for her daughter and herself. She was a loving and caring mother, grandmother and great grandmother. Lee was a person of great independence and fortitude, and very loyal to family.
She was predeceased by her husband, John J. Luke, Sr., who died September 10, 2000, and her siblings, Amelia "Betty" Sacko, Rose Martin, James Carr, William Carr & Joseph Carr.
Lee was mother of John J. "Jack" Luke, Jr. (Mary K) and Jane L. Lucas (Philip); grandmother of Michael (Megan), Daniel (Molly) and Cara Luke, Megan and Christine Lucas; great grandmother of Kayla, Ryan, Annie & Marshall ; sister of Mary Lynch and Margaret Doohan ; and sister-in-law of Thomas B. Luke (Marie). She is survived, as well, by many nieces and nephews.
Funeral Mass: 10:30 AM Monday, June 16 at St. Francis de Sales R.C. Church, 35 New Road, Lenni, PA where friends may call from 9:30-10:15 AM.
