Obituary

Kenneth Smith Walrath of Glen Mills, PA, passed away on Thursday, October 31, 2024 at the age of 71, peacefully, and surrounded by his most cherished loved ones. He is survived by his loving and devoted wife of 47 years, Deborah and his six children: Nicholas, Glenn (Tiffany), Barbara (Scott), Theresa (Mark), Monica (Dan), and Carl; along with his ten grandchildren: Brianna, Gavin, Adeline, Myla, Vivia, Greta, Emily, Everett, James and Grady. He is also survived by his three sisters, Kathrynann Durham (Steve), Barbara Walrath (Val), Elizabeth Besvinick (Mitch), and sister-in-law Patricia Yount (Buff). He was predeceased by his parents, Catherine Talarico and Glenn Smith Walrath along with his older brother Glenn Kurt Walrath.

Ken was born on November 26, 1952 in Upland, PA.  He graduated Sun Valley High School in 1970 and entered the Army that August. While in the Army he served a year in Vietnam in The Security Agency running intelligence and earned the Commendation Medal.  After returning home he attended Widener University earning his Bachelor's Degree in Accounting. Shortly thereafter, he earned his Masters Degree in Business Management from Drexel University along with his CPA certification.  He wore many hats throughout his career working in accounting, finance, and insurance along with running the family business, Walrath-Talarico's Florist in Parkside, PA.  He was also a professor of Accounting at Strayer University. Outside of his career he loved spending time with his family, being involved with the Boy Scouts, coaching baseball, basketball and track. He was also a member of the VFW Post 3460 in Media, PA and the Brigantine Elks Lodge #2428.

Ken was deeply loved by his wife, children, grandchildren, family, and close friends.  He can be remembered for his quick wit and dry humor.  He loved all things sports and was an avid Philadelphia fan. Being at the beach with his wife was one of Ken's special pleasures in life.  His horticultural prowess was put to good use in Grandpop's garden and orchard.  Ken was a pillar in the family and loved us unconditionally.

Though he is no longer with us, he is now all around us.
