Obituary

Joseph L. Shields, Jr."Jingles", 80 of Eddystone died February 4, 2011 at Taylor Hospice Residence.

Born in Chester, he was a lifelong resident of Eddystone.
He was Chief of Police in Eddystone for 35 years, retiring in 1997.

Mr. Shields was a U.S. Army Veteran of WWII, and was a member of the American Legion, VFW, both the county and state Police Chiefs Associations, Eddystone Fire Co. and the Over the Hill Gang. He enjoyed playing cards with his poker buddies and along with his wife were foster parents to ten children.

He was husband of the late Genevieve P. "Jenny" Melvin Shields, who died July 9, 2007, father of the late Kathleen M. Mattero who died November 29, 1973 and Patrick M. Shields who died April 4, 1993, son of the late Joseph L. and Catherine Kelley Shields and brother of the late Hazel Sweeny, Edward Creighton and J. Robert Shields.

Survivors: children Wayne C. Mattero (Mary) of Ridley Park, Joseph L. Shields, III of Eddystone and Shaun Shields (Sandra) of Woodlyn, sister Catherine "Kay" McFadden (Paul) of Aston, also five grandchildren and one great-grandson.
