Obituary

Beloved Dad, son, brother, uncle and friend, John Brian Tinney passed away suddenly on the morning of December 18, 2024. He was 47 years old and will be so dearly missed by all that knew him.

Born April 4, 1977, to John and Debbie (Bissinger) Tinney – John was a lifelong resident of Ridley and a graduate of Ridley High School in 1995, where he was a proud member of the football team. He loved watching his children, Casey, John and Tyler who continued this legacy as Raiders - never far from a field or a gym to support them.

He not only watched but coached, where he enjoyed making plays, drawing on napkins or anything thing else he could find, making him part of the game.

Known as loyal, loving and an extremely fun time.  John will fondly be remembered serving behind the bar of Ricks making many friendships, working hard and creating memories with many in the Ridley community.

His job at Delcora, where he recently celebrated 5 years, brought him such pride and new friendships with his co-workers. Never afraid of hard work, John was willing to put in so much effort into what he did. Whether it was at his job, building a new deck at his home or renovating his bathroom.

That included cooking, a craft he perfected in his grandpop's kitchen.   He was known for family favorites like golumpkis, ham and cabbage or his own amazing spin on potato soup that he would always share with those he loved, especially his parents.  John loved trying all kinds of new recipes like his huge pots of homemade gravy.

His love of music extended from Counting Crows to Johnny Cash and everything in between. If he had a favorite, he played it over and over again. A habit that would drive us crazy, but now will fill our hearts with joy when those favorites are heard.

He was one of a kind. Anyone who had the pleasure of knowing him, will tell you that. We all have a "John Tinney" story to share. He loved unconditionally and would drop anything to lend a hand. His actions to show up for anyone, reflects the depth of compassion he had for each and every person he knew.

Just recently, John shared how proud he was of his children.  His most important job in life was raising his children.  John possessed strong family values, strong nurturing instincts and his devotion to them is a true attestation to the father he was.  This brought him so much comfort and pride.

He is survived by his parents, John and Debbie, his children, Casey, John, and Tyler, their mother Michele, his siblings  Michelle Kapp (Lanny), Jeff Tinney (Liz), Stephanie Robinson, (Ben), and many nieces and nephews who will always remember him as the "fun" uncle.

Also fondly remembered by the Gavin family.

Though he is no longer with us, the memories and stories we share will ensure his spirit remains. We can have comfort knowing he will be watching over us and have one more dedicated Philly sports fan helping get another Super Bowl or World Series title.

John's legacy will live on through his children and the countless lives he has touched.
