John Q. "Jack" Johnston, 98, of Springfield died December 31, 2013 at Delaware County Memorial Hospital. Born in Paisley, Scotland, son of the late Nellie and James A. Johnston, he lived in Aston prior to moving to his late residence three years ago.
Jack was a graduate of Eddystone High School, class of 1934 and served in the U.S. Army in Africa and Italy during World War II, he received the Good Conduct Medal, the Victory Medal and the EAME Campaign Medal with two Bronze Stars. He was employed at the Sinclair Refinery for many years, retiring in 1980. He was a member of the Middletown Presbyterian Church and former member of St. Paul's Episcopal Church. Jack was a life member of the American Legion Post #926, Green Ridge , and a fifty year member of Prospect Lodge #578, F. & A.M.
He was husband of the late Thelma Glatts Johnston who died in 1978 and Mary Lou Gourley-Johnston who died in 2000, father of the late John Q. Johnston, Jr.,step-father of the late Amy L. Gourley and brother of the late Edward Johnston.
Survivors: his son Jay W. Johnston, step-daughter Jeanne L. Stefanko, grandfather of David Johnston (Sarah), Daniel Johnston (Amy), Terri Baiocco (Michael) and Thomas Dwyer (Tiffany), also six great-grandchildren.
Funeral Service: 10:30 AM Thursday at the Middletown Presbyterian Church, 273 S. Middletown Rd., Media, PA 19063 where friends may call 9:30 to 10:30 AM. Burial will be in the adjoining church cemetery.
