John I. Oakes 89 of Media, died on September 24, 2019 at Naamans Creek County Manor. Born in Lenni, John was a lifelong resident of Delaware County.

He operated Oakes Real Estate for 25 years, retiring in 2009 and previously was a plumber at Scott Paper Company.

John was a graduate of Media High School, class of 1947 and was a veteran of the U.S. Navy, Coast Guard and the Merchant Marines.

John was a member of St. Francis deSales R.C. Church and Green Ridge American Legion Post 926. He was an avid historian, enjoyed photography was a HAMM Radio Operator K3FZN but most important to him was his family.

John was father of the late John I. Oakes, Jr. who died in 2003 and the late Robert J. Oakes who died in 1978; son of the late John I. and Alma Carr Oakes and brother of the late Doris Harrison and Vincent Oakes.

He is survived by his loving wife of 69 years, Marie Mazzone Oakes; his son Joseph D. Oakes (Deborah); daughter in law Susan Steward Oakes; his grandchildren Robert, Kylie, Jason, Jamie, Stacy Oakes and Camille Bradford; great grandchildren, Layla, Aundrea, Arianna, August, Samuel and Allyson; also, his siblings, Robert Oakes and Alma Clark.

Funeral Mass 11:00AM Monday, September 30, 2019 at St. Francis de Sales R.C. Church, 35 New Road, Lenni where friends may call from 9:30 to 10:30AM. Burial in the adjoining church cemetery.
