John Campbell MacAlpine, III, 78, passed away suddenly on July 4, 2013 at Crozer Medical Center. Born in Philadelphia, he was son of John Campbell MacAlpine, Jr. and Lucia Jean McCornack. He was raised in Swarthmore, graduated from Swarthmore High School and went on to earn a Bachelor of Science Degree in Mechanical Engineering and Master's Degree in Nuclear Engineering from Iowa State University. He met his wife, Jeanne in college and they were married for 54 years before she passed away in 2011.
After working at Argonne National Laboratories, in the Chicago area for a year, John moved his family east to attend The Wharton School of the University of Pennsylvania. He completed all the coursework in Cost Accounting for an MBA with the dream of building nuclear reactors (after the waste disposal issues were solved). However, his father passed away in 1967 suddenly, and he elected instead to become the third generation of CPA's in the family business in Philadelphia. He was still working full-time at the firm when he passed away.
John will be remembered by friends, clients and family as loving his work, his wife and his family. He had a warm personality, the desire to tease and be teased, the desire to work IRS regulations to maximum advantage and a keen ability to save a dollar.
