Obituary

John M. "Jack" Griffith 92 of Ridley Park, died January 20, 2015 at the Wilmington VA Medical Center.

Born and raised in Philadelphia, Jack moved to his late residence in 1955. He was a letter carrier for the US Postal Service in the Ridley Park office for 23 years, retiring in 1986.

Prior to that, he worked at Curtis Publishing Company. After his retirement, Jack drove for the Delaware County Community Transit. He was a member of the Ridley Park United Methodist Church, where he served as Treasurer, Trustee and the Pastor Parish Relations Committee.

He was also a member of the Ridley Park Senior Center and the School House Senior Center, Masonic Lodge F.&A.M. and was a volunteer at Taylor Hospital. A graduate of North Philadelphia High School, class of 1939, Jack served as a Sergeant and a Tank Commander in the U.S. Army, 11th Armor Division during WWII.

Jack was the husband of the late Sarah Jane Kirkpatrick Griffith, his wife of 40 years who died in 1986 and the late Dorothy Blounts Griffith who died in 1998; and son of the late John M. and Miriam Mason Griffith and great grandfather of the late Hanna Leeann Raab.

He is survived by his children John R. Griffith (Carol A.), Lynn J. Gibbon (Ronald) and Virginia S. Marioni (Charles); also 8 grandchildren, 15
great grandchildren and one great great grandchild.

Funeral Service 11:00AM Friday, January 23, 2015 at the Ridley Park United Methodist Church, 501 N. Swarthmore Ave., Ridley Park, PA 19078 where friends may call after 10:00AM. Burial Philadelphia Memorial Park.
